Hanson produces two sizes of rumble bar.

Small Rumble Bar

300 mm long x 150 mm wide x 50 mm high, 3 kg mass. This has been widely used in suburban situations with great success.

Large Rumble Bar

385 mm long x 200 mm wide x 55 mm high, 6 kg mass. This bar is extensively used throughout South Australia.Rumble bars should be used in accordance with Clause 3.3.8 of AS 1742.2-1986.

APPLICATIONS

They are typically used to:

  • Control turning movements at, and to delineate approaches to, intersections.
  • Improve lane control.
  • Supplement barrier lines where frequent and hazardous infringements occur.
  • Replace raised or painted islands where these are impracticable because of space or lighting limitations.
  • Form an approach treatment to a median or other control obstruction.
  • Replace a narrow median.


Installation Note:

Rumble bars must be installed correctly for maximum working life. They can be glued to either concrete or bitumen with Megapoxy PM (as manufactured by Vivacity Engineering Pty Ltd) or equivalent. The instructions of the manufacturer should be carefully followed and it is important there is even bearing over the whole rumble bar.
